ARTIST STATEMENT

My acrylic artwork has a lot of heavy strokes with Pop Art and Contemporary styles, my watercolour work is a lot of expressive fine lines and with a hint of ink. Why I paint in these styles is because I love reading novels that are based in the 1850s – 1950s either in London, Paris, and Scotland. The novels have the storyline of vintage clothing with the dresses and the big hats, which I love hats by the way! There is also a big portion of love and romance that wraps around a mystery which the couple has to solve in the novel.

I’ve started painting with a lot of Paris scenes, wine, women with hats and dresses for as long as I started reading these novels probably since I was sixteen years old. I started out with watercolour paint when I was little and in school, I started to experiment with acrylic. It really depends on the how I’m feeling the day I paint to choose between watercolour or acrylic paint, I love both. I find my work is very unique because each piece tells its own story just like a novel. That is very important to me since it takes you into another world or era.
